NABA Broward County Butterfly Chapter Meeting – January 17, 2027

Our speaker will be Dr. Terri Hood, Ph.D. in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Miami (UM). Her topic is “Water and Mulch in Your Butterfly Garden; Taking a Permaculture Approach.”
Her esteeemed career includes 24 years with the UM teaching faculty in the Geosciences Department and Ecosystem Science and Policy Program including 17 years as Assistant Director. She was awarded the 2022 Fulbright Foote Prize which recognizes leadership in environmental stewardship on the UM campuses for her role in establishing the developing the Gifford Arboretum Teaching Garden. Dr. Hood is the founder and continuing leader of the UM Atala Project (2021-present) which involves weekly monitoring and care of coontie plantings on the UM Coral Gables campus with collection of larvae and pupae for distribution by the NABA network. To date, more than 60,000 atalas have been relocated by NABA members.
Terri is currently retired and spends many hours in the home garden applying the permaculture principles that were taught to college undergraduates for many years. All are invited!
